Media is everywhere. I already knew that, but when your forced to notice how much it's really there it's a little shocking. I think about how much technology has advanced over the years and we like to put blame on people saying they're so dependent on their iphones, or ipod, or laptop, or whatever. But we're kind of forced to be in a way.
I try to think back to a time when today's technology didn't exist. A time that I was not a part of. Was life "better" because people were "free" from media. No, not necessarily. Life if life. It has it's up's and down's and quite frankly a boost in media is not going to change that. I'd just like to point out without the invention of texting, how often would any of you stay in contact with the people you text? Maybe you would still talk now and then, but would you talk as often as you can through a text? ... Just something to think about.
My media experience this week has been hell trying to get this stupid thing working. Im sorry, I don't have patience for this nor do any of you really care what I have to say or think, so why am I writing this? I don't watch the news, nor have I had time to even watch TV. All the media I have consumed is my phone, this stupid blog, and movie nights. Which in my life is somewhat the norm. Maybe next week will be more interesting.
It has been hard to get this going, but I appreciate that you hung with it, Jen. It's interesting that I saw many comments like yours in the media abstention assignment -- so perhaps more people than you think will be interested!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to have "advanced technology" but it comes with a cost. These days everyone is a journalist taking pictures of celebrities, trying to make a quick dollar. My grandparents told me about how much fun they had growing up without media, because they did not have to worry about anyone watching them (like big brother). And they had their privacy. These days it seems like because of media not all of us have "the privacy" we once had. I can relate how frustrating this assignment can be especially when a person is not a social media junkie. Good job.
