Starbucks for life
I was listening to the radio morning show on 98.5 the Rob, Arnie and Dawn show, which if any of you have heard this morning talk show it is quite entertaining while being forced to be awake that early in the day. Anyways the topic of discussion was that this woman has made a statement that she will only eat and drink Starbucks for an entire year. Her name is Beautiful Existence from Seattle and her vow to only eat and drink Starbucks is stemmed from her outcry that American's are spoiled and she wants to challenge that. There is now speculation that Beautiful Existence is wanting media attention just as Jared from Subway has become "famous" as well as the guy from 'Supersize Me' who ate nothing but McDonalds and changed the way American's view fast food. Im curious if this woman is really capable to eat and drink soley Starbucks. Not only is this challenge going to be expensive, (isn't a small drink average of $3-6?) Im curious to see how unhealthy this will be. Her diet is going to consist of nothing but sugar, unless she drinks water and eats apples there is no way eating Starbucks can be good for you.
I personally think this woman just wants attention, and well she won. She has made such an unusal comment that the news has traveled from Seattle Washington to here in Sacramento California. On top of it all it has made its way onto news websites as a "hot topic." If you simply google "woman claims to eat starbucks for entire year" you will get numerous articles. So congratulations Beautiful Existense, you won over the media to pay attention to you for 5 minutes. But just like you entered the media headlines quickly, you will exit quickly. I would safely bet we will not hear of you until your 12 months is up and you have either died, failed at sticking with your stupid choice or you completed your challenge but still no one cares. Media and its audiences only pay attention to what just happened, not what happened 5 minutes ago. If your not in the present, your in the past and as far as media and the attention that goes with it the past is not somewhere you want to be.
The first link is an article from ABC news. The second link is actually Beautiful Existences' blog which talks all about the starbucks escapade, kind of interesting how she is defending this is a good idea.

Hi Jenn,
ReplyDeleteFor people who want attention, speaking on the radio or appearing on t.v. is a great way to utilize the social media. I read a couple of articles and it was mentioned that she wants to be like Jared from Subway. The only reason why her story is appealing is because people like Starbucks and want to hear about her experience. Personally, I do not care what she does and I think drinking Starbucks everyday can be a health risk. Maybe she can drink water from Starbucks, after all it is from Starbucks. She can eat the protein snack which is healthy.
Yo,
ReplyDeleteThis totally made me laugh when I heard about it, but now that I've had the chance to take a look, it makes me want to die of laughter. She screams, "hey look at me I want attention" and basically in my mind I couldn't imagine one reason to eat starbuck's for one year. Unless Starbuck's paid me. Although she defenitely received her five minutes of fame, and just like the guy from "super size me", she will probably end up paying for it. Literally, I looked at her blog and she's trying to figure out ways to cut the cost of buying Starbucks every day.
